TANCO wrapping arm includes two safety arm sensors and the unfold sensor connected in series. All three sensors must be closed for the wrapping arm to operate. If this signal is interrupted, the arm will stop and the message RESET SAFETY will be displayed.
The safety signal passes back through the slip ring on the wrapping arm pivot and through the loom to the controller in the tractor cab. The slip ring is the most common failure point. It is not a serviceable part and will need to be replaced if faulty.
Temporary Bridging Procedure
As a temporary measure, it is possible to install a bridge wire to keep the safety signal closed.
The bridge wire must be placed between the red and yellow wires on the 8-way connector (located on the cable from the junction box to the tower).
See the diagram and photo below for reference:
⚠️ Important Safety Warning: Once bridged, the tripping of the safety arms will no longer stop the wrapping arm. Extreme care must be taken while operating the machine. The root cause should be identified and repaired as soon as possible.
Controller Setting Adjustment
When using a bridge wire, a controller setting must be updated:
ARM UNFOLD TIME must be changed from 0.3 seconds to 3.5 seconds.
This adjustment is in the TECHNICIAN SETUP menu.
Pin code: 1,2,3,4.
Additional Notes
In some cases, contamination within the slip ring may clear after running the machine with the bridge in place, restoring proper safety signal operation.
During troubleshooting, also check:
Spring tension on the safety arms.
If the folding wrapping arm creeps back during wrapping, which may cause the unfold sensor to lose signal.
