Issue Symptom

The S200 Wrapper displays "Overspeed" alarms or inconsistent RPM readings even after the following have been attempted:

  • Increasing the RPM alert threshold (e.g., to 90 RPM).

  • Adjusting the sensor gap/distance.

  • Replacing the sensor or the controller/computer unit.

Root Cause

The primary cause is Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) or floating ground issues between the film dispenser frame and the wrap arm. The film break sensor can interfere with the counting sensor signal if there is no direct metal-to-metal contact between these components.

Required Tools

  • Sandpaper or a small metal scraper.

  • Multimeter.

  • Standard wrench set for dispenser bolts.

Corrective Actions (Field Fix)

Step 1: Establish Grounding Continuity

  1. Locate the bolted joint where the film dispenser frame connects to the wrap arm.

  2. Loosen the bolts on both dispensers.

  3. Scratch off a small patch of paint at the contact point under the bolted joint to allow for direct metal-to-metal contact.

  4. Re-tighten the bolts securely.

Step 2: Verification

  1. Using a multimeter, test the continuity between the dispenser frame and the wrap arm.

  2. The resistance should be less than 1 Ω.

  3. Ensure all sensor grounds are properly seated and connected to the chassis ground.

Step 3: Test Operation

  1. Run the wrapper and monitor the RPM readings on the controller.

  2. Confirm that the "Overspeed" alarm no longer triggers under normal operating speeds.

Note: This is a rare issue that occurs under specific environmental conditions. If the problem persists after establishing a ground, contact Engineering to discuss the installation of shielded cables or dedicated ground straps.
